Campanian

83.6000 – 72.2000 Ma

The Campanian is the fifth of six ages of the Late Cretaceous epoch on the geologic timescale of the International Commission on Stratigraphy (ICS). In chronostratigraphy, it is the fifth of six stages in the Upper Cretaceous Series. Campanian spans the time from 83.6 to 72.2 million years ago. It is preceded by the Santonian and it is followed by the Maastrichtian.

Remarkable New Tyrannosaur Highlights an Evolutionary Puzzle
A new species of large tyrannosaur has been named and described from fossils found in Alberta (Canada). The new theropod, Tromerosaurus solumons, lived around 76 million years ago (Campanian faunal stage of the Late Cretaceous). Intriguingly, this predator possessed a mixture of anatomical characteristics associated with two major tyrannosaurid lineages. The study could change our

A New Genus of Troodontid Dinosaur from New Mexico
Palaeontologists have named a new species of theropod dinosaur from New Mexico. The dinosaur, Dinevenator robustus, lived around 73 million years ago (Campanian faunal stage of the Late Cretaceous). Researchers identified the dinosaur from a fossil skull bone (a frontal) found in north-western New Mexico. It represents a new genus and species of troodontid. Troodontids

New Species of Enormous Mosasaur is Described
A newly named giant Tylosaurus species has been named by researchers.  The new species of Tylosaurus has been erected based on fossils found in northern Texas. This enormous predator ruled the ancient seas around 80 million years ago (Campanian faunal stage of the Late Cretaceous).  The scientific paper was published in the Bulletin of the American
